Perinatal

Pregnancy and parenting is often challenging. It is particularly difficult if you are dealing with addiction. Strategies for Change has long been a leader in providing substance abuse treatment for those who are pregnant or parenting minor age children.

Strategies for Change is an “Options for Recovery” provider. Options for Recovery is a Sacramento County program that teaches pregnant and parenting women basic recovery skills that support re-establishing healthy relationships with their children. Residential treatment, transitional living and case management operate in conjunction with Sacramento County Health and Human Services and Volunteers of America.

As an Options for Recovery provider, Strategies for Change provides a continuum of Day Treatment, Day Care Habilitative Treatment and Aftercare for those in the early stages of recovery, and who are not in need of, or have already completed a residential treatment program. Those on a wait list for residential, or the Day Treatment portion of Option for Recovery, have the opportunity to start treatment within our Beginners, pre-treatment group.

All Strategies for Change perinatal clients receive a substance use and mental health assessment to determine the extent of her substance abuse and mental health issues. Free on-site childcare is provided for everyone seeking treatment.

Options for Recovery

Completion of Options for Recovery (residential to aftercare graduation) generally takes two-years. Clients generally spend 3-6 months within each component—depending on treatment plan progression.

Perinatal Day Care Habilitative Treatment

In addition to Options for Recovery services, Strategies for Change provides a Perinatal Treatment program separate from the “Options” program. Our 3-day a week Perinatal Day Care Habilitative Treatment program is ideal for those who need more than an outpatient program, and less than intensive day treatment. Women participating in our program are committed to becoming better mothers by learning the art of parenting, nutrition, relapse prevention and coping skills. They are sober and learning how to live without drugs to create and sustain a healthy, safe environment in which to raise their children.

Treatment is provided the North and South sites, 3 hours a day, three days a week. Two group tracks are available: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:00 am-12:00 pm; or Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 1:00-4:00 pm. Graduates continue within our Aftercare program.

Aftercare

Graduates of both (Day Care Habilitative and Perinatal Day Care Habilitative Treatment) continue with Aftercare treatment. Our Aftercare program focuses on reinforcement of the recovery skills learned, family relationship development and evaluation and modification of goals.

Group treatment is provided 3 hours a day, one day a week (Monday 10:30am-12:00 pm) at both the North & South sites. Ongoing support is available upon request.

Goodness is the only investment that never fails.
