Strategies for Change Co-occurring (mental health/substance abuse) treatment is designed to assist clients to deal with the depression, anxiety, or other issues that are involved in their misuse and abuse of drugs and alcohol. Substance abuse or addiction is often a person's method of feeling normal particularly if they suffer from chronic depression, bipolar disorder, or post traumatic stress. Strategies for Change approach to treatment ensures clients full emotional health needs are met while developing skills and support systems to ensure sobriety sustainability. Our team of therapists, psychologist and psychiatrist makes certain clients are evaluated and receive the appropriate behavioral treatments that accompany recovery from mental health and substance abuse disorders. Substance abuse or addiction often injures the neurochemistry of the brain, causing injuries to the person’s ability to stay on an even keel, think clearly, or make decisions. If a person has suffered a trauma that continues to disrupt sleep or a sense of feeling safe, often the only coping mechanism a person can easily choose is to use a substance to calm them down. For these persons, learning to manage stress, to relax, to think about what is going on, and to learn how to reflect before taking action is essential to replacing substances as the coping mechanism of choice. Success All clients receiving substance abuse treatment services are screened for mental health issues upon entry. Strategies for Change clients who take advantage of therapy in conjunction with addiction counseling, experience a 91% success rate (with success being completed discharges or transferred in good standing or remaining as active clients). For those in treatment more than 180 days, the rate goes up to 93%. All (group and individual) mental health services are conveniently located on-site at both North and South facilities.
