Building A Playground Have you ever dreamt of building your own playground? Well we sure have, and with the support of KaBOOM! , Home Depot and many community contributions we installed a wonderful playground on September 24, 2009 Click here to view photos:
Background In mid-July children gathered putting crayon to paper and expressing ideas on an ideal playspace. We discussed every idea and elements of the designs were incorporated into our final plan. The Project On September 24, 2009 over 250 volunteers took part in the installation of a quality playworld playground at 4343 Williamsbourgh Dr, 95823. Our playground build felt like magic and tremendous community support made it all possible. The project was coordinated by KaBOOM! and funded by Home Depot. Other significant support has come from Luanne Leineke (coordinated a massage-a-thon raising $900), Supervisor Jimmie Yee’s office (helping navigate permits and other matters of compliance), Premier Pools (removed asphalt and graded the area), Teichert (recycling the asphalt), Kiff Analytic (soil testing), the Sacramento Tree Foundation (shade and fruit trees), Campbell’s Soup, Trader Joe’s, Da Vinci’s Deli, Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, La Bou and Loaves and Fishes donated extra eggs, fruit and oatmeal so that we can provide a good hot (protein-based) meal for all the volunteers. If you would like to support our build, please review our wish list or consider a direct contribution to Strategies for Change. Thank you everyone who made our playground a reality. It's wonderful and the kids love it!
