Strategies for Change offers expertise within the fields of substance abuse recovery, co-occurring disorders and youth treatment and prevention. Lectures, presentations and booths are available to schools, businesses, health fairs and community organizations within Sacramento County.

Presenters Background:

Donna Furtado

Donna Furtado is a dynamic speaker and has served Sacramento’s substance abuse treatment field for 12 years. She currently serves as Strategies for Change north site Program Manager and guides her team to provide clinically sound education and counsel in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Ms. Furtado holds CADC II certification, the highest level of substance abuse counseling certification available. In 2007 the Sacramento Board of Supervisors presented her with the Heroes of Human Service Recognition Award. Ms. Furtado and her team of youth counselors are available to schools, busineses and community groups provide insight and direction for guiding youth and their families through the teen years.

 

BJ Davis, Psy. D.

Dr. Davis is a registered psychologist, certified drug & alcohol counselor, the author of the 2009 DVD “What is Recovery?: A Quality of Life Perspective,” the Clinical Director of Strategies for Change substance abuse treatment agency, and an Adjunct  Professor in the Forensic Psychology Doctoral Program at Alliant International University. Dr. Davis is also the Area 5 Director for the California Certification Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors. Davis has significant experience testifying as an expert witness on substance abuse in criminal cases. He is a strong advocate for challenging some of the long held myths about what works in substance abuse treatment and is active in conducting research that focuses on treatment effectiveness and outcomes.  His areas of expertise include Reality Therapy/Choice theory, co-occurring disorders, Quality of Life outcome research, and multicultural issues.
